The Art of Writing a Letter

As time goes on, society is continually shifting more and more toward using technology as the main form of communication. With everything being so fast paced, slow living and granny hobbies are making a comeback. One of those things truly having a resurgence is a long lost art form. Writing letters. My kids love getting mail, and they love to write and send letters to their friends and family.

I remember growing up and absolutely loving and pining over all of the Lisa Frank stationery. Passing notes in class and sending letters to friends was the best thing ever. The anticipation of a letter, or a card coming in the mail. Decorating the stationery any way you would like; after a while, It was no longer just a regular correspondence, but creating a beautiful gift to send to a friend.

As slow living begins to come to the forefront of everyday life, I think we can start looking at this long lost art form of letter writing as a fun activity for the kids to stay in contact with each other. Especially if you are not a huge fan of phones and social media for your kids, this can improve their communication skills, penmanship, and creativity.

In each penpal kit, there are paper cutouts that are great for practicing cutting with scissors. My son goes to occupational therapy for his fine motor function and one thing his therapist is regularly having him work on is holding and writing with a pencil, and cutting with scissors. So, not only did they enjoy working on their letters and cards, but he could really work on strengthening his fine motor skills.

These kits were so fun for my kids to work on, and with life being as busy as it is, it has been pretty hard for all of my children to be able to stay in touch with their friends without setting up play dates.

I don’t know about you, but I want to make sure that my children are able to stay in communication and remain social beyond the confines of a screen. All it takes is a digital download and a printer.

Happy writing!
